Applications of Augmented Reality in Pharma

Tony Major is a Senior Software Developer at the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Research Labs located in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Tony is responsible for tracking the development of Augmented Reality as a disruptive technology and how it applies to the pharmaceutical industry.  Tony has worked closely with lab researchers for nearly 20 years integrating custom software and robotics to accelerate that research.

In 1999, Tony assumed the role of Director of Automation at the Genome Science and Technology Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center.  Projects included a novel plaque picking robot, enhancement of the MerMade Oligonucleotide (DNA) synthesizers, and the Sequencing Support System to fully automate the robotics of handling DNA sequencing of fluorescently labeled reactions.  In 2001, Tony became Manager for Mass Spectrometry Software at Celera Genomics.  Projects included fully automating data file movement and conversion, as well as a differential expression discovery and review application.  In 2006, Tony became Senior Software Engineer for Eli Lilly.  Projects included Mass Spectrometry data handling and top-down/de novo protein sequencing software named DeCharger (released as Open Source to github in 2018).  He attended Microsoft Build 2015 and was one of the first developers outside of Microsoft to learn to develop for the HoloLens. Tony also developed internal applications to explore AR and VR utility.  Recently, Tony was nationally recognized by We Work for Health as a Champion for his efforts in raising awareness about applications of new technology to advance our understanding of data.

Tony is a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Biology.
